Citing the prolonged semiconductor equipment sales slump and the continuing oversupply problems in the memory manufacturing market, Mattson Technology is cutting jobs and increasing its tool assembly outsourcing. Mattson expects to save approximately $6 million per annum with the loss of 80 employees or approximately 14 percent of the Company's global workforce.  50 percent of the job losses are in manufacturing as the company continues to expand its outsourcing operations.

"The wafer fabrication equipment market is in a protracted downturn due to oversupply conditions in the memory segment; a situation that has been exacerbated by macro-economic conditions,” commented David Dutton, President and Chief Executive Officer. “In response, we feel that it is prudent to implement the Cost Alignment Plan to reduce headcount and optimize facilities worldwide."
