Texas Instruments’ CEO and President Richard Templeton (pictured) has been named as the recipient of the 2007 SEMI Akira Inoue award for excellence in environmental, health and safety standards. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Intel Corporation is to become the top corporate purchaser of green power in the United States after the purchase of 1.3 billion kilowatt hours a year of renewable energy certificates (RECs), a trasnsaction that is being handled by Sterling Planet. In the Clean & Green (C&G) Watch 2007 report conducted by the Asian Corporate Governance Association (ACGA) and CLSA Limited, Taiwan based foundry, UMC was ranked second overall out of 73 companies from Taiwan and third among the 336 companies surveyed in Asia. Engineers at IBM’s Burlington, Vermont semiconductor facility have developed and introduced a novel process for pattern removal on wafers that significantly reduces the process costs and environmental waste. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has said that Jazz Semiconductors of Newport Beach, California, has returned to being compliant with federal hazardous waste requirements, after an inspection in August 2005 identified problems with its air emissions standards for equipment and related procedures. Advent Solar, a solar cell and module manufacturer, has placed a multiple systems order with Edwards for its Hot Oxidation Systems (HOx) abatement technology. The Hox-based systems will be used for the abatement of PECVD exhaust gases during solar cell manufacturing at its Albuquerque, New Mexico plant. The systems will ship to Advent Solar in September 2007, according to Edwards.

Acterra, a Silicon Valley not-for-profit environmental organization, has awarded Applied Materials its 'Susanne Wilson Award for Pollution Prevention/Resources Conservation: Special Project' for its energy efficient semiconductor equipment design program, which involves all products in energy reduction goals.
