IC Insights' latest 3Q08 top 20 semiconductor supplier rankings continue to highlight the mayhem in the memory market with Qimonda, Elpida, and Spansion all now dropped from the listings. Qimonda dropped 12 positions from being ranked 18th overall in 2007 to 30th in the first three quarters of 2008. Hynix showed a revenue decline of 27 percent and has fallen one position to 8th. Samsung continues to show strong growth (15%) despite falling ASPs.
Fabless semiconductor competitors, Qualcomm and Broadcom saw revenues grow the fastest of all companies, with growth of 27 percent and 26 percent respectively. Qualcomm is now 9th largest semiconductor supplier through the first three quarters of 2008, according to IC Insights. Broadcom, move up five positions and is now the 18th largest semiconductor supplier in the world
AMD (12th) is now growing revenue faster than rival Intel (1st), with 9 percent growth, while Intel recorded 7 percent revenue growth.
IC Insights expects that the top 20 semiconductor suppliers, in total, will register 4Q08 sales of $43.2 billion, a decline of 8% sequentially.
