The demand for silicon wafers used in the production of semiconductors is expected to decline 16% in 2009 as the impact of the global economic downturn spreads, says Gartner’s silicon market researcher, Takashi Ogawa. However, Ogawa warned that a further downward revision couldn’t be ruled out due to the lack of visibility into the key semiconductor markets for next year. Wafer demand is expected to decline by 1.8% in 2008, compared to 2007.
