Speculation over the technology partner being selected by the Taiwan Government for its plans to establish a consolidated DRAM manufacturer, dubbed Taiwan Memory Company (TMC) is over with the official announcement from Elpida Memory, Inc that it has been selected. Details though of the partnership have yet to be finalized, according to Elpida.
"It seems that TMC gave high ratings to Elpida's advanced technology and our business achievements in Taiwan. Our intention now is to do our best effort to create win-win business scenarios for Elpida, TMC and Taiwanese DRAM companies," commented Yukio Sakamoto, President and CEO of Elpida.
However, few details exist on the structure of TMC or which Taiwan DRAM companies will join the new entity. Indeed it is not yet know whether Micron Technology will play a part or whether Nanya and Inotera, technology partners with Micron will join TMC in any form, which would potentially compromise TMC gaining scale of operations.
News reports are also claiming that Elpida is prepared to offer a 10% share holding to TMC.
