Dr. Bertrand Cambou, the long-running President and Chief Executive Officer of Spansion, has suddenly resigned from all positions within the company. The loss-making NOR Flash memory manufacturing is struggling to remain afloat in a business that has yet to turn a profit and which has now hit by weakening demand and a non-existent credit market. Dr. Cambou announced that the company was seeking a sale or merger to survive.
Dr. Boaz Eitan, an Executive Vice President and Member of the Board of Directors, has been appointed as Spansion’s interim President. Dr. Cambou has agreed to provide consulting services to Spansion.
"The board appreciates Dr. Cambou's hard work and dedication and thanks him for his important leadership during the past several years," said Eitan. "I look forward to working with him in his consulting capacity."
Eitan founded Saifun Semiconductors, which was acquired by Spansion in early 2008, Prior to Saifun, Eitan held various positions at WaferScale Integration Inc. and Intel Corp. Eitan holds a Ph.D. and a M.Sc. in Applied Physics and a B.Sc in Mathematics and Physics from the Hebrew University, Jerusalem.
