Risto Puhakka VLSI Research has named Michael A. Martinez to the newly created position of vice president. Reporting to VLSI's President Risto Puhakka [pictured], Martinez will use his new position to expand the company's sales and marketing operations and infrastructure. His responsibilities will include the sales and marketing of VLSI's main research products and services on weSRCH, the organisation's online discussion board for professionals in the industries of medicine, high technology and green technologies.

With his new position, Martinez is also expected to play a part in developing and putting into fruition important corporate strategies.

"Michael's experience in high technology, semiconductor capital equipment and electronic industries will be invaluable to our company's growth and product expansion strategy. His talent for marketing, positioning all aspects of high tech companies and his ability to grow markets will further enhance the already strong management team we have put in place at VLSI," Puhakka said. "We expect him to be a tremendous asset for VLSI as the company seeks to strengthen its position and reputation within high technology and related industries."

Martinez comes into his new title with over 20 years of experience with broad-based high technology in both marketing leadership and general management positions. Previously, he worked as vice president of worldwide marketing for Photronics and later as vice president of Aviza Technology. Before joining Photronics, Martinez was corporate vice president of MCA, a public relations firm in the Silicon Valley. He has also held marketing management positions at Lam Research, Electronic Data Systems, OnTrak Systems and Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI).

Martinez has a B.Sc. degree in applied mathematics and mechanical engineering from the University of Redlands. He has also studied at the Wharton School of Executive Education at the University of Pennsylvania and has written a number of business articles. Previously a featured speaker at industry forums, technical conferences and university programs, Martinez also volunteers on Intel Corporation's International Science and Technology Fair 2010's marketing committee, and serves on the board of directors for Creative Mileage LLC.
