Kazuo FurukawaHitachi, Ltd. has appointed Takashi Kawamura as President, CEO and Chairman in an attempt to counter the effects of the global economic crisis, low sales and a volatile Yen. Mr. Kawamura, who until now held the role of Chairman of both Hitachi Plant Technologies and Hitachi Maxell, will assume the trio of responsibilities as of April 1st, 2009.

Kazuo Furukawa (pictured), former President and CEO, will become vice chairman, while former Hitachi Chairman Etsuhiko Shoyama now assumes the role of board director.

Mr. Kawamura, a Hitachi employee since he joined in 1962, brings over 40 years of executive electronics and business experience to the role. Mr. Kawamura is an electrical engineering graduate from Tokyo University.
