Alexander
“Andy” Karsner, former Chief Regulatory Official for the Department of
Energy, has agreed to join the Applied Materials Board of Directors and
to serve as a member of the Strategy Committee of the Board with
immediate effect. He brings experience in renewable energy policy and
technologies, as well as management, operations and business
development to his seat on the Board.
Mr. Karsner served as Assistant Secretary for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) from 2006 to 2008, where he was a principal contributor to the U.N.-sponsored climate change negotiations. He was also instrumental in various global energy projects, including the establishment of the “Bali Roadmap” toward achieving a post-2012 global framework accord on energy security and emissions reduction.
Mr. Karsner worked in the private sector prior to joining the DOE, working as an international infrastructure developer and energy entrepreneur managing and financing large-scale global power projects. His roles have seen him work on energy projects related to oil, natural gas, coal, wind, solar and biomass. Former posts include a role as Managing Director of Enercorp LLC, and management roles with Tondu Energy Systems of Texas and Wartsila Power Development of Finland, among others. He has a B.A. from Rice University and an M.A. from Hong Kong University.
