SMSC has announced its addition of industry veteran Christine King to its executive team. Ms. King takes up the role of President and CEO on October 20th, taking over from Steven J. Bilodeau, who has decided to retire from the role. Mr Bilodeau will, however, remain with the company in a part-time capacity until February 2009 to aid in the transition. Ms. King will also take a seat on the SMSC Board of Directors. Read more >>

The Global Semiconductor Alliance (GSA) has announced its intention to honor industry veteran Dr. Eli Harari as this year’s winner of the Dr. Morris Chang Exemplary Leadership Award. The award, which will be presented to Dr. Harari on December 11th 2008 at the Santa Clara Convention Center, recognizes exceptional contributions in global leadership within the semiconductor industry. Dr. Arthur Kuo has decided to accept a role with UMC that will see him return to the company following a spell elsewhere. His new role as Senior Vice President at UMC-USA, the company’s wholly-owned sales office based in Sunnyvale, California, will see Dr. Kuo draw on his experience in the fields of product development, sales and marketing and IC process development. Alexander “Andy” Karsner, former Chief Regulatory Official for the Department of Energy, has agreed to join the Applied Materials Board of Directors and to serve as a member of the Strategy Committee of the Board with immediate effect. NEC Electronics America, Inc. has announced the appointment of Bob Pinteric as General Manager of the Multipurpose Microcontroller (MCU) Strategic Business Unit. Freescale Semiconductor has announced the appointment of company Senior Vice President and CTO Dr. Lisa Su as Senior Vice President and General Manager, Networking and Multimedia. She joined Freescale in 2007 as Senior Vice President and CTO, and replaces Lynelle Mc Kay in the Networking and Multimedia role. Rudolph Technologies, Inc. has announced that Leo Berlinghieri, President and CEO for MKS Instruments, has agreed to join its Board of Directors. The appointment, which came into effect on September 18th, 2008, will see Mr. Berlinghieri apply his management, M&A, operations and development experience garnered from more than 28 years in the semiconductor industry to the semiconductor equipment supplier.
