During a conference call with analysts regarding 1H05
financial results, Soitec reiterated the 50 million Euro contract, still
running with AMD in Dresden. However, a new contract worth a minimum of $100
million US dollars that runs from July 05 through to June 06, is not related to
AMD, rather it is a new contract with an unidentified customer, according to a
follow-up conversation Semiconductor
Fabtech had with Soitec's investor relations department.
The previously announced AMD contract runs through to the
end of the year, which means a new and possibly larger deal will be in the
offering due to the ramp of AMD's Fab 36, which was not in operation when the
current contract was awarded.
The new contract could have come from IBM or Chartered
Semiconductor, both currently ramping 90nm 300mm SOI microprocessor chips for
the up-coming launch of Microsoft's Xbox 360.
