By Dr Mike Cooke

STMicroelectronics (ST) has created a 'Greater China' region, covering the company's operations in China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. ST also announced the appointment of Bob Krysiak as Corporate Vice President and General Manager of the new entity.
ST reports that almost 50% of its total sales come from customers in the Asia Pacific region. Further, shipments within China are responsible for more than 50% of the Asia Pacific volume. ST expects China to make up one fifth of the global semiconductor market within the next five years.

ST's presence in the region includes manufacturing, design, research, sales and marketing operations. The creation of the Greater China region is designed to capitalise on the fast growing economic zone.
