MattsonMattson Technology, has attained "Star" status in the California Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (Cal/OSHA) California Voluntary Protection Program(Cal/VPP).

Mattson is the first company in the semiconductor capital equipment industry to be recognized as a Cal/VPP Star site, according to the company. Cal/VPP recognizes companies and specific work locations that go beyond traditional compliance to achieve exemplary levels of worker health and safety. The Star designation is the highest safety achievement offered by Cal/OSHA.

"Mattson Technology demonstrated to the Cal/VPP on-site audit team that the company already had a strong safety program in place, which allowed the team to finish its work a day earlier than planned and generate the shortest punchlist of opportunities for improvement to date," said Iraj Pourmehraban, Cal/OSHA VPP area manager. "The audit team was impressed by Mattson's strong upper level management commitment to the health and safety programs, the professionalism of the health and safety manager, a pervasive attitude for safety throughout the company and the strong support by their on-site contractor, Emcor."

"We are committed to going 'beyond' excellence in all facets of our business, driving quality and continual improvement of our products, processes, and services," said David L. Dutton, Mattson Technology's chief executive officer. "Thanks to the hard work and dedication of our employees, we have built a solid corporate infrastructure that positions us for further growth and allows us to focus on developing tools and technologies that enable improved quality of life for our employees and communities."

"Our ethic of treating safety as a value that is integrated into our corporate culture has helped us to become the first semiconductor capital equipment company to earn the Cal/VPP Star site designation," said James C. Oswalt, director of Environmental, Health and Safety at Mattson Technology."This achievement is an important milestone in our journey to a safer and healthier workplace for our employees."
