Plant constructor and service provider M+W Zander has completed the energy supply center " EVC 2" for the second AMD chip plant in Dresden, Fab 36 at a cost of 66 million Euros. The energy center is operated by ‘Zweite Energieversorgungscenter Dresden-Wilschdorf GmbH & Co KG', a joint-venture between the industrial gas supplier Air Liquide, Düsseldorf, and the local energy supplier DREWAG. The new energy supply centre EVC 2 provides the AMD Fab 36 with electrical power, hot and cold water through a thermal power station powered by natural gas. The capacity would be adequate to supply all the energy necessary for a town with 150,000 inhabitants.

The first gas generator started up pilot operation in November 2004. The EVC 2 has been supplying all the energy for the AMD Fab 36 since the first of April 2005.
