GartnerIn its final 2007 semiconductor sales roundup, Gartner said that worldwide revenues totaled $273.9 billion in 2007, a 3.8 per cent increase from 2006. Its Top 10 vendors list showed that Intel grew revenue more than twice as fast as the semiconductor market average with revenues of $33.8 billion in 2007, compared to $30.5 billion in 2006 - a 10.7 percent increase.

However, the biggest gain came from Toshiba with revenue increasing 20.8 per cent in 2007 to $11.8 billion. This meant that Toshiba moved up the rankings from sixth to third, displacing Texas Instruments along the way. According to Gartner, TI saw a 1.8 percent decline in revenues in 2007 and dropped to fourth position in Gartner’s rankings.

The other big gainer in 2007 was Hynix, which saw revenues increase by 13.7 percent from 2006 to 2007. Six companies in the Top 10 saw revenues increase in 2007, which included Intel, Samsung, Toshiba, STMicroelectronics, Hynix and Renesas.

AMD’s revenues declined the most in 2007. The 20.9 percent decline outstripped declines from Infineon/Qimonda of 3.2 percent and 0.1 percent by NXP.

Interestingly, Gartner pointed the finger directly at Hynix for the steep average selling price declines in DRAM seen in 2007 as it said Hynix had been the most aggressive at adding capacity.

On a market share basis, Intel was the clear leader, holding on to 12.3 percent of worldwide semiconductor market in 2007.
