Jan 31, 2008 at 06:05 PM

ImageTSMC has said that capital spending for 2008 would be approximately $1.8 billion in 2008, down significantly from $2.6 billion in 2007. TSMC has said in its third quarter conference call that spending would be lower for 2008 but did not give specific guidance at that time. TSMC spent $2.475 billion directly on capital purchases in 2007 with the remaining amount spent on subsidiaries.

UMC has said yesterday that CapEx would be cut in half to between $500 and $700 million for 2008, while SMIC would leave spending at last year’s rate of $700 million.
