MIPS Technologies’ Processor Business Group is to be led by John Derrick, who steps into the newly created role of group President and General Manager. Reporting to MIPS President and CEO John Bourgin (pictured), Derrick’s responsibilities in this new role will involve the direction and growth of the company’s microprocessor and architecture business.
Mr. Derrick’s past career involved much management and business development. He began his career with Texas Instruments, and following an eight-year stint with IBM, he founded semiconductor IP startup Chicory Systems, serving as CEO until the company’s acquisition by Parthus Technologies, for whom he accepted the role of EVP.
He then took up the role of entrepreneur in residence for Austin Ventures, which he followed by founding and becoming CEO for Conformative Systems. This company was in turn acquired by Intel, and Mr. Derrick went on to take up the role of General Manager of Intel’s Acceleration Products Division. He has a degree in electrical engineering from Iowa State University and has 19 patents for his work with IBM.
