SMIC starts production at new 300mm fab in Shanghai

SMIC SMIC has officially announced the start of production at Fab 8, its newest 300mm fab based at its 200mm fab cluster in Shanghai, China. Construction of Fab 8 began in October 2005 with tool installation beginning in May 2007. According to the company, pilot production commenced in July 2007.

Fab 8 is expected to be SMIC’s second 300mm fab dedicated to NAND flash and DRAM memory production and has an estimated capacity of 30,000wspm.

Not really incorrect info. The other 12-in fab you're probably referring to is fab 12 in Wuhan, but this is gov't owned. Just operated by SMIC. Fab 12 is the one primarily devoted to DRAM, though Beijing (Fab 4a/b/c) may do some as well.

There is incorrect information in the news.
Fab 8 is the 3rd 300mm fab of SMIC in production and it is dedicated to NAND flash and logic production. Beijing 300 mm is for DRAM.
