As reported last week, Cymer closed down operations because of the wildfires burning in the area near its headquarters in the Rancho Bernardo area of San Diego.
The laser light source company's facilities survived, but some employees lost their homes. A press release with the latest from Cymer just hit my inbox. Here's what it says:
Cymer... announced today [that] its 12-acre global headquarters in Rancho Bernardo, CA---a San Diego community severely damaged by this week's wildfires---has come out of the destruction unharmed. The company, which employs more than 700 people in San Diego, estimates a small percent of employees lost their homes to the fires and will be offering corporate housing for those affected.
"These past few days have been a nightmare for thousands of San Diegans, including Cymer employees, friends and loved ones," said Edward Brown, president and chief operating officer for Cymer. "Cymer has always prided itself on being both a technology and community leader. Now, in the midst of such devastation, Cymer is investigating the best ways possible to aid fire-displaced victims, both now and in the months to come."
Cymer was up and running at normal speed on Friday, Oct. 26.
Chip Shots will continue to provide updates on Cymer and other wildfire-affected companies' situations as they become available.
