Freescale Semiconductor claims it has developed a 24-Megabit flash chip, saying the next-gen device will be half the size of conventional devices and cheaper too.
A news story in today's Technology Review Emerging Technologies Daily Update e-newsletter reports on the new technology. According to the piece, a novel nanocrystal distribution technique allows the insulating layers to be reduced and hence the chip to take up much less real estate. The story says that the company plans to have devices into commercial production by 2008.
