More on Applied Materials' move into solar Print E-mail

The blogosphere can be a wonderful thing. After seeing my May 11 posting about Applied Materials' acquisition of Applied Films, Neal Fineman of the Cleantech blog sent me a note today about his latest posting, "Applied Materials & Solar -- What's Going On?"

Neal (who is a partner at Jane Capital Partners, a San Francisco merchant bank focused on energy technologies and cleantech) makes some interesting observations and revelations, both about Applied's acquisition and the solar panel sector in general. He believes that it's "going to get harder and harder for venture-backed startups to compete in solar. As big players enter the market, the window is tightening."

As Neal notes, we haven't heard the last of AMAT's solar play. Stay tuned for future developments.
