When my friend Dave told me about a certain sushi restaurant in the Marina district in San Francisco that he called "the best in town," I was skeptical.
Culinary hype is a time-honored tradition, and one person's gourmet experience can be another's source of wicked indigestion.
But I do love sushi. When Dave treated me to the joys of Zushi Puzzle last night, his rave description didn't prepare me for the awesome meal. Without any hesitation, I can safely say that chef Roger's incredibly fresh sashimi, sushi, and rolls are the best I've tasted outside Japan.
From the first platter of scrumptious sashimi cut to perfection, presented with an artfully gutted flying fish (!), to the parade of needle fish, albacore toro, and other delights flown in from all over the planet, the textures and flavors of the ocean's bounty were superb.
So believe the hype: Zushi Puzzle ranks with the best sushi restaurants anywhere.
