For several years, MICRO magazine maintained one of its strongest sponsoring partnerships with the Advanced Semiconductor Manufacturing Conference (ASMC).
The two entities had a nicely symbiotic relationship, with the publication offering itself as a platform for publicizing the conference, and the conference prominently promoting MICRO as a key sponsor and also providing some excellent technical articles to the magazine drawn from the event. As I continue to deal with life in the post-MICRO era, I miss my direct involvement with ASMC and the camaraderie with the people associated with it.
That said, this year's conference---which switches back and forth between Boston and Europe---takes place in a new city: Stresa, Italy. The focus is on improving wafer fab productivity (and not just of the 300-mm variety), which, as always, is spot on for those laboring in the chip-manufacturing salt mines. SEMI just sent out its Global Update newsletter, which includes a nice featurette about this year's ASMC. Here's the link to that story, quoting conference cochairs Dave Gross of AMD and Thomas Beeg of Qimonda, as well as the hard-working, extremely amiable manager of the event, SEMI's Margaret Kindling.
Excuse me, but I gotta stop here: I'm getting a bit misty-eyed reminiscing about this.
