This week's edition of the LA Weekly (which I've been contributing to for 20+ years) includes my feature Q&A with noted music producer/manager/impresario, Joe Boyd.
His enjoyable memoir of his experiences in the '60s, White Bicycles: Making Music in the 1960s, has just been published. There's also a cool companion CD of rarities and milestone tracks from the likes of Incredible String Band, Fairport Convention, Pink Floyd, Nick Drake, Chris McGregor, Eric Clapton, Soft Machine and others---all of whom Joe worked with in one way or another---that goes with the book...if you can track it down.
I had a chance to interview Joe when he came through Los Angeles on his promotional tour a few weeks back. In a classic case of having to fit 20, no make it 30, pounds of shit into a 5-pound bag (OK, shoveling 6000+ words into a 1000+ word assignment hole), the finished article contains a mere taste of the extensive conversation that Joe and I had in a local cafe.
Here's the link to the story.
