Of airgaps, self-assembly, and artistic expression |

IBM's announcement that it has mastered the art of self-assembled airgaps dominated the semiconductor technology news this week.
Kudos to Big Blue's propeller heads for the breakthrough. Although the story garnered a lot of coverage, I suggest a check of Dave Lammers' reportage/analysis the past two days at www.wesrch.com (the same Mr. Lammers who was quoted in the story about IBM's nanovacuum-creating work in the Grey Lady AKA The New York Times).
In honor of their achievements, I present a close-up of an IBM microprocessor's airgaps along with a collage featuring non-self-assembled wood-sculpture gaps of a different nature. But first, a haiku:
Airgap, "just breaking
the ice in self-assembly,"
