Cymer closes down because of San Diego firestorms |

When I looked at the fire maps in San Diego yesterday and realized that Cymer was in or near the burn zone in Rancho Bernardo area, I tried to contact some folks at the company to check on their situation.
Company president Ed Brown sent me a short email, saying, "Thanks for thinking of me.
As you can guess Point Loma [where Ed lives and we both grew up] was not directly impacted, but I am afraid many of our employees were. It will take a while to get the full impact understood, but I appreciate your concern and consideration."
Terry Slavin, Cymer's director of communications and investor relations, also emailed me in response to my voicemail. "Cymer has been closed since Monday due to the fires. The facilities were not damaged, and we don't believe this will have a material impact on our Q4. What's worrisome is the people---many homes in Rancho Bernardo, Poway, Escondido, were destroyed or damaged, and many of our employees live in those areas."
In addition to the Cymer shutdown, news outlets have reported that Sony and Kyocera had closed their San Diego facilities for the time being. Chip Shots will provide additional information as it becomes available about Cymer and any other relevant companies in the fire-affected areas.
