Wacker-Chemie GmbH is realigning its operative organization. From
January 2005 the Group will have five independent business divisions.
The realignment's goal is to make better use of the existing market and
technology opportunities for chemicals, as well as to develop promising
new growth sectors, according to the company.
At WACKER SILICONES, the fumed silica business - previously part of the
"Advanced Materials" Business Unit - will be turned into a separate
"Silica" Business Unit. The WACKER POLYSILICON unit, in which
hyper-pure silicon is produced for the semiconductor and solar
industries, becomes a business division in its own right.
This follows the failed attempt to float the wafer growing division
earlier in the year due poor investor enthusiasm.Wacker- Chemie has
made it known it wants to revert back to being a more focused chemicals
company.
