EitanSpansion has said that it plans to acquire non-volatile memory IP specialist Saifun Semiconductors in a deal worth $368 million. This transaction is said to consolidate all ‘MirrorBit’ and NROM IP, design and manufacturing know-how into a single company. Spansion first licensed NROM IP technology from Saifun in 2002. Since then, Spansion has become the largest revenue generator for Saifun, Qimonda having dropped the technology exactly a year ago in October 2006.

“Throughout our long-term partnership with Saifun we have been impressed with the depth of technology expertise, the quality of people and the ingenuity of the Saifun organization and look forward to establishing a team in Israel," said Bertrand Cambou, pPresident and CEO, Spansion Inc. "We look forward to collaborating with them to serve Saifun's existing licensees, and enter new markets with a powerful technology licensing
strategy and a broadened and diversified product portfolio."

“We will continue to support all of our existing licensees with the same commitment and dedication as before,” said Boaz Eitan (pictured), CEO of Saifun Semiconductor. “We are certain that the addition of the Spansion IP and manufacturing know-how will only accelerate all programs."
