Micron Technology has announced that in its fiscal fourth quarter it saw megabit sales of NAND flash memory increase by 60 percent over the previous quarter, highlighting that it has achieved a successful ramp of its NAND production. The cost of goods sold per megabit also decreased in the fourth quarter compared to the third quarter by approximately 40 percent, the company said.
Micron also said that it had cut its workforce by approximately 1,000 in the quarter as it seeks greater flexibility and a return to profitability. The company incurred a net loss of $158 million in the fourth quarter, which compares to a net loss of $225 million in the third quarter. Overall the company’s manufacturing operations achieved better scale improvements in 2007, with wafer production increasing in excess of 20 percent over fiscal 2006, Micron said.
