According to Korean newspaper ET News, Hynix Semiconductor is planning to start placing equipment orders this month for its M11 fab currently under construction.

That in itself may not be anything of note, but the story claims that Hynix will be purchasing more than 50 percent of its equipment requirements from Korean-based suppliers - including start-ups!

Apparently, Hynix will also do business with suppliers to Samsung, which the story suggests is something new!

This bit I find a bit bizarre, and I don’t believe this is actually true - but please let me know if it turns out otherwise.

Of course, Hynix will be forced to purchase its lithography tools overseas, and I must admit I struggle to see how Hynix will achieve a high ratio of home-grown equipment.
