Taiwan-based Mosel Vitelic has signed a five-year contract to receive multicrystalline solar wafers from LDK Solar Co., Ltd., that is valued at approximately $190 million with delivery expected to start in 2008.
"We are delighted to secure supply of high-quality silicon wafers from LDK Solar," stated Rebecca Tang, President of Mosel Vitelic, Inc. "We look forward to enhancing our relationship with LDK as we grow our solar business globally."
Mosel Vitelic reportedly set aside $24 million for its first production ramp of solar cell production in early 2007 and had an initial target capacity of 30MW. The move into the solar market is deemed strategic as the company stops manufacturing memory chips.
