The joint venture fab operations between Hynix and STMicroelectronics, located in Wuxi, China have signed a contract to sell the equipment of C1, one of its 200mm production lines, to a Chinese conglomerate, China Resources (Holdings) Co., Ltd.
The expected move releases cleanroom space to start migrating production of memory devices to 300mm wafers. The partners also said that certain other 200mm lines would be upgraded.
China Resources has several listed companies in Hong Kong, including CSMC Technologies, which is a specialist foundry producing mixed signal, BCDMOS, BiCMOS, Planar and Trench DMOS, EEPROM and CMOS logic devices in two 150mm fabs.
CSMC's Fab 1 is located at Wuxi, while Fab 3 is located in Beijing. CSMC is headquartered in Wuxi.
