NAND flash demand seems set to continue through 2011, according to a new report from Semiconductor Partners, the new offspring from SEMICO Research. Although everything ‘pod' like has been an important market for NAND in recent years, Semiconductor Partners believe that computing applications will grow at a CAGR of 55 percent between 2006 and 2011 making up nearly two-thirds of the NAND flash market.
"While the consumer market, whose main components of memory are digital cameras and the flash cards in them, is a major market for NAND today, the real growth in this market will be in the computing segment," said Adrienne Downey, Semiconductor Partners Director of Memory Research.
To cater for this huge CAGR growth, Semiconductor Partners believes that a significant new wave of capacity will come on-stream in the next 18 months.
For now, the NAND-based iPhone is proving to be a growth driver with Semiconductor Partners expecting second quarter prices to grow by 2 percent. Overall NAND revenues in 2007 will show an increase of over 15 percent to reach a total of over $13.5 billion. the market research firm said.
