LDK Solar adds polysilicon production to expansion plans Print E-mail

ImageThe LDK Solar, listed on the NYSE and based in Xinyu City, China has started construction of a polysilicon production plant adjacent to its multicrystalline solar wafer facilities. The aggressive schedule set by the company should see a production capacity of up to 6,000 metric tons of polysilicon produced by the end of 2008 and 15,000 metric tons by the end of 2009. The Company has also indicated that it plans to commence volume production by the end of 2008.

"Today's [August 18th ] groundbreaking represents a notable milestone for LDK as we move forward with our plans to establish in-house polysilicon production and build upon our technical and operational expertise," said Mr. Xiaofeng Peng, Founder, Chairman and CEO of LDK Solar. "We are very proud of the speed of the preparations leading to the groundbreaking and see this achievement as a demonstration of our commitment to becoming the largest and lowest cost wafer producer in the solar industry."

On the solar wafer front, the company is planning to double manufacturing capacity by the end of 2007 to reach 400MW and reach 800MW capacity by the end of 2008.
