ProMOS to fab CMOS image sensors at 300mm fab via Toppan IP license |

 fab 12_100.jpg "Image") Toppan Printing Co. has expanded its manufacturing footprint for CMOS image sensors with a technology licensing deal with ProMOS Technologies related to Toppan's ‘On-chip Color Filters' and ‘Micro Lenses' technology. Toppan had previously set up a Joint Venture company with SMIC of China, dubbed Toppan SMIC Electronics (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. (TSES), which had been in production since January 2006.
The new deal is additional to the JV TSES and will see ProMOS ramp Fab2, its first 300mm fab that was previously dedicated to DRAM production also produce image sensors using Toppan IP and materials. Toppan will also assist in the qualification and ramp phases.
The ProMOS Fab 2 was one of the first wave of 300mm fabs, entering production ten years ago.
