Tech media company acquires teardown company for $26 million |

CMP Technology the US based media company, owned by United Business Media based in the UK has acquired Semiconductor Insights the IP and well-known ‘teardown' specialist. No financial details were given in a statement, however The Ottawa Citizen, where Semiconductor Insights has its Headquarters put the purchase figure at $26 million US dollars with another $8 million due should targets be met, the newspaper reported.
CMP plans to leverage Semiconductor Insights position in the market place to assist in its efforts to become valued higher up the food chain as part of its web 2.0 business strategy. "I am very pleased about today's announcement," said Marg Smeaton, Semiconductor Insights board member and wife of the late Dr. Doug Smeaton, who was president and CEO from 1992 - 2007. "Doug was very passionate about his company and the semiconductor marketplace. He was confident that CMP is the right partner to take Semiconductor Insights to the next level and continue to build the company according to the strategic plans Doug had envisioned." The two companies had worked together over the last four years with Semiconductor Insights popular teardown reports and video's being featured in EE Times and online and providing technical content for TechOnline.
