Marvell Semiconductor is now close to migrating XScale microprocessor
production to preferred foundry partner TSMC, resulting in Intel's
closing of its 200mm fab in Colorado sometime in August, 2007 with the
loss of approximately 800 jobs.
Marvell had previously stated at the time of the XScale business
portfolio from Intel for US$600 million a year ago that supply from
Intel would be wound down and all products transferred to TSMC.
Intel
is expected to attempt to sell the Colorado Springs fab separately as
part of a strategy to migrate away from legacy 200mm production
facilities.
