Veteran IT journalist Mike Magee, head honcho of the enquirer.net website, has made a rare public appearance to discuss the plight of AMD.

Uncharacteristically, Mike isn't in acidic mode; rather he comes over all soft and slightly tearful that AMD may have got itself in a muddle over executing on new MPUs and process technology roll-outs.

The premise, which I fully understand and one that has been bothering me of late, is that AMD talked the talk but hasn't yet walked the walk with new products.

CapEx cut-backs, minimum quantity ordering at Chartered and a deathly quiet period of no hard news about 65nm ramp rates, yields and progress to 45nm technology is doing AMD no favours. In fact the vague timelines already given for 45nm migration are certainly unsettling!

No news is not good news for AMD as Mike points out here:
