300mm wafer demand grew by 56 percent in 2006, says Gartner Print E-mail

ImageAlthough overall silicon wafer demand remained sluggish in the first quarter of 2007, Gartner believes that a second-quarter upturn is underway. This is being driven by demand for 300mm wafers, especially from memory manufacturers.

Gartner noted in its latest newsletter to customers that wafer demand saw an annual growth rate of 26 percent in 2006. However, 300mm demand grew by 56 percent in 2006 as demand for 200mm and smaller sizes weakened. 300mm wafer demand reached 1.85 million units per month in 2006, according to Gartner.
