Headcount reduction announced by AMD last week will mean an overall 2.5% cut in the company's 16,000-strong workforce. AMD chairman and chief executive Hector Ruiz revealed that this figure, initially set as high as 5%, was decided upon by company officials and represents 430 staff. Job cuts will take place in the sales, administration, marketing and engineering sectors of the company.
It is estimated that the distribution of cuts will be as follows:
80 from the Austin, Texas office; 50 from the Markham, Ontario office; 40 from Sunnyvale and Santa Clara, California offices; 12 (approx.) from a Boston-based design center.
The remainder of the positions will be cut in small numbers from various worldwide locations.
