Atmel sells Texas 200mm fab to Maxim for $38 million Print E-mail

AtmelAtmel has sold a 200mm fab based in Irving, Texas for approximately $38 million to Maxim Integrated Products. Atmel executives said in a conference call with financial analysts earlier this week that it had also received interest from several parties concerning the purchase of two other fabs in England and Germany with the likelihood that the 200mm fab in England could be sold this year.

Maxim's President, Vijay Ullal said, "This facility puts us in an excellent position for future capacity requirements. It is capable of 20,000 eight-inch wafer starts per month with the capability of expanding to over 30,000 wafer starts per month. The scale and construction of this facility will enable Maxim to bring on line capacity down to the 0.18µm node with low cost and short cycle time with high yields."
