AMD nearly names NY fab; opening after 2009? Print E-mail

AMD has revealed its working title for its planned 300mm fab in Luther Forrest, NY State during a meeting with local residents as reported by the Times Union local newspaper (http://blogs.timesunion.com/business/?p=770)

Titled ‘Fab 4x' by AMD's Terry Caudell, it indicates that the fab would not be operational before 2009!

Considering the losses posted by AMD due to the ATI acquisition, this is perhaps not a bad move!

Then again - why not keep it 4x as everything including graphics chips will be 4 core or more by then!
