SigmaTel has announced the resignation of President, CEO and Chairman Ronald Edgerton. William Osborne and Phillip E. Pompa (pictured) will replace Edgerton, who resigned for personal reasons. The post of Chairman of the Board will be filled by William Osborne, who is already a member of the Board, while Phillip E. Pompa has been named as interim CEO until Mr. Edgerton's successor is named.
This announcement came as Pompa, in his new role, announced the company's expected revenue for the fourth quarter. He attributed the lower-than-expected figures (approx. $37-38 million) to the decrease in demand from SigmaTel's OEM customers and to the slowdown of sales by the company's Chinese ODMs.
William Osborne has been a director of SigmaTel since 2001 and has, in the past, held a variety of academic positions, such as his post as Dean of the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Texas, Dallas, and his current position of Dean of the College of Engineering of Southern Illinois University Carbondale. He has a BSc and an MSc in electrical engineering from the University of Kentucky and a PhD in electrical engineering from the New Mexico State University.
Phillip Pompa joined SigmaTel in 2005 and since then has served as senior VP of the company's Integrated Products Group and most recently as senior VP of the Portable Systems Group. Prior to joining SigmaTel, Pompa served as VP of marketing for AMD and has also held managerial positions with IBM and Motorola. He has a BSc in electrical engineering and a Masters in Business Administration, both from Stanford University.
SigmaTel is a fabless semiconductor company with headquarters in Austin, Texas.
