Students to “GetNANO” program at Albany; AMD to benefit |

Hands-on experience in a state-of-the-art cleanroom R&D facility is being planned for students at The College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE) of the University at Albany. The program will provide Hudson Valley students with hands-on education and training in IC fabrication as well as cleanroom protocols, operations and safety training.
CNSE is teaming with Hudson Valley Community College and is in discussions with Einhorn Yaffee Prescott (EYP) Architecture & Engineering PC of Albany to create better readiness for students to enter semiconductor manufacturing careers, especially since AMD announced that its next 300mm fab would be based in the region in the coming years.
"The availability of a highly skilled and well-trained workforce was a key factor in AMD's selection of the Luther Forest Technology Campus," stated Douglas Grose, Senior Vice President at Advanced Micro Devices. "As processing technology continues to rapidly evolve and embrace new and more sophisticated materials science, we need to ensure our employees have access to state-of-the-art training and education. Through initiatives like the GetNANO program, we look forward to the success of the CNSE, Hudson Valley, and Einhorn Yaffee Prescott partnership as they strive to keep Upstate New York on the leading edge of technology innovation."
The GetNANO program will also provide internship opportunities for undergraduate students wishing to enter design, engineering and architecture-related careers; fellowships for faculty and students with graduate, bachelor and associate degrees; while activities for middle- and high-school students with an interest in energy and environmental engineering and design will also be added to the program.
