ABSTRACT

Implementing "islands of software" will address the challenges of the multi-platform environment that exists in fabs worldwide. The main issue is being able to use the latest software tools and methods while working with the legacy systems and other systems still in use throughout the industry.

Providing solutions based on industry standards without requiring users to change faster than their tolerance and comfort level will allow is the best way to enable integration. Software providers must closely follow the standards, not only to ensure compliance with today's and future requirements, but also to support those operating systems that were developed around previous versions of the standards. This article will address key factors to consider in implementing a reliable factory connectivity solution for 300 mm and introduce the "islands of software" concept.
