1400 employees to work at Carl Zeiss SMT optics plant |

 Carl Zeiss SMT AG has officially opened the next phase in the building of its lithography optics manufacturing plant in Oberkochen, Germany. In December 2001, the first building phase was officially inaugurated with approximately 150 employees working at the plant. This grew to 1,000 by 2005 and now the company expects to employ approximately 1400 at the 45,000m² facility.
"Sustained investments in high technologies are the best method of outpacing the competition and also creating internationally competitive jobs in Germany," stated Dr. Dieter Kurz, President & CEO of Carl Zeiss AG. "We have added more than 200 new employees this year at Carl Zeiss SMT alone."
Carl Zeiss SMT has invested more than €450 million in the new factory, including approximately €150 million in buildings and infrastructure, as well as more than €300 million in production and measuring facilities, since 2001, according to the company.
Günther H. Oettinger, Minister President of the German State of Baden-Württemberg, added: "The Carl Zeiss Group in Oberkochen is a shining example of the innovative power and the international competitiveness of the high-tech companies in Baden-Württemberg. With this step, Carl Zeiss secures a large number of qualified, future-proof jobs - at mid-sized suppliers as well - far beyond the boundaries of East Württemberg."
