Chinese government builds 300mm fab |

The regional Chinese Government of Wuhan, in central China has broken ground on a state owned 300mm fab that will be run by Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC). The holding enterprise will be called Wuhan Xinxin Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp.
The new fab is located in Wuhan East Lake New Technology Development Zone, Hubei Province, China and is expected to be completed by the end of 2007 and production started sometime in the first half of 2008. Capacity is being stated 25,000 wafer starts per month with an initial first phase ramp of 12,500wspm, according to the company. Funding if the estimated $2.5 billion facility comes from an investment company associated with the Hubei provincial government, Wuhan City government and Wuhan East Lake New Technology Development Zone.
