According to several local Ulbany, New York State newspapers, online reports and a news posting at the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering ("CNSE") of the University at Albany, Vistec Lithography Ltd, based in Cambridge, England will relocate its complete operations to a refurbished facility close to the nanotech research hub by mid-2007.

Intel Corporation provided updated headcount reduction figures for the third quarter, during a conference call with financial analysts. The headcount declined over 2,600 during the quarter, confirming Intel's plan to have reduced headcount to about 95,000 by the end of 2006.

The Society of Women Engineers have announced the presentation of the Emerging Leaders Award to Erika Lyn Edgerly, manufacturing engineering manager for Intel Corporation's Fab 11 in New Mexico. Ms. Edgerly is being presented with the award to recognize her management achievements and her leadership qualities that have ensured the efficient running of one of the world's largest semiconductor fabs.

John Denzel, President and Chief Operating Officer of Ultratech Inc., has resigned his position with immediate effect, according to the press statement issued late yesterday. Skyworks is reducing its workforce by 425 - around 10 percent of its worldwide workforce - as part of a product consolidation plan and the exit from the baseband mobile phone market. These actions are expected to result in charges of between $85 and $95 million, the company announced.

According to the EDA Consortium, member companies employed 23,784 professionals in Q2 2006, up 7% from the 22,130 reported in Q2 2005. The American Electronics Association (AeA) has revealed its latest report on employment trends within the ‘tech sector' in North America, highlighting, that 140,000 new jobs were created between January and June of 2006.
