Hands-on experience in a state-of-the-art cleanroom R&D facility is being planned for students at The College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE) of the University at Albany. The program will provide Hudson Valley students with hands-on education and training in IC fabrication as well as cleanroom protocols, operations and safety training.

Atmel Corporation is seeking to sell two fabs and reduce its workforce by approximately 1,300 in an effort to become profitable and move to a fab-lite business model. Struggling SIPEX has announced a further round of restructuring activities on the back of its recent decision to close its Hillview fab in Milpitas, California and become a fabless company. BOC Edwards plans to recruit technical level staff at its newly opened European semiconductor headquarters based in Grenoble, France. The company has relocated 50 employees from its sales, business management and applications engineering functions into the new location and expects to recruit more staff from the Grenoble area due to an abundance of skilled semiconductor engineers in the area, according to the company.
