CMP restructures point EE Times towards web 2.0 Print E-mail

As part of major restructuring effort to realign with the shift of advertising dollars away from print and towards internet-based marketing by its advertisers, CMP Technology, a division of United Business Media and based in the UK, is consolidating EE Times' and TechOnline's editorial teams.

Freescale plans job cuts Print E-mail

Freescale is planning job cuts, greater manufacturing outsourcing and other financial measures as a result of falling sales primarily due to the poor mobile phone sales of its biggest customer and one-time parent, Motorola.

Tundra Semiconductor axes 20 jobs in restructuring move Print E-mail

Tundra Semiconductor has said that as part of a restructuring effort to manage cash-flows, 20 jobs or approximately 7 percent of its workforce are to go in its Research and Development and General and Administrative departments.

Intel Ireland employees safe despite JV Flash venture Print E-mail

The recently announced Intel/STMicroelectronics JV has created shockwaves throughout the flash memory community, and while there have been concerns regarding the career prospects of some Intel employees as a result of this, it has been reported that the near-2,000 Intel employees working in Intel Ireland, Leixlip, Co. Kildare, are to be unaffected by the venture.

Job cuts at Jazz Technologies Print E-mail

In conjunction with the company's release of its first quarter results, Jazz Technologies has announced that it cut 55 jobs as part of its cost reduction program in the first quarter of this year.  Information on the targeted areas for these cuts was not available.

Job cuts at AMD Print E-mail

Headcount reduction announced by AMD last week will mean an overall 2.5% cut in the company's 16,000-strong workforce.  AMD chairman and chief executive Hector Ruiz revealed that this figure, initially set as high as 5%, was decided upon by company officials and represents 430 staff.  Job cuts will take place in the sales, administration, marketing and engineering sectors of the company.

HP and Synopsys award Babbage grant to Case School of Engineering Print E-mail

The Case School of Engineering at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio has received a Charles Babbage Grant to develop the Department's software, training and equipment levels.  The School will now be provided with Synopsys EDA software, along with sixteen dual core HP xw4400 Workstations for the new laboratory.

Intel to close Fab 11 with more than 1,000 jobs going Print E-mail

According to news reports Intel is closing Fab 11 a 200mm fab producing 130nm flash products this year with the potential loss of over 1,000 jobs. Intel has already announced the closure of other 200mm fabs as further technology migrations are not possible in these legacy fabs.

Semitool cuts workforce due to delays and order push-outs Print E-mail

Semitool has said that it has cut its workforce by 7 percent (approximately 92 jobs) in the last quarter. This is due to unforeseen order delays from key customers in both memory and microprocessor markets as well as receiving push-out delivery dates from memory customers by at least two quarters.

The cost reduction strategies also include salary cuts at management level, the company said.
